Mass Shooting at Siam Paragon Mall

The mass shooting occurred at the Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at around 4:30 PM local time. According to AFP, hundreds of people fled the upscale mall in the heart of the Thai capital when the shooting unfolded.

Thailand’s Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, expressed concerns for public safety following the mass shooting incident, stating, “I learned that there a shooting at Siam Paragon…” on his Twitter account.

Several unverified videos circulating on social media depict people, including children, rushing out of the doors of Siam Paragon Mall as the shooting took place. Security guards escorted them to safety.

One video shows individuals taking shelter in a dark room inside a local restaurant, while television broadcasts displayed long traffic jams outside the mall during heavy rainfall.

Arrest of the Shooter

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced in a statement to reporters that the shooter apprehend after surrendering. Thavisin also reported that hundreds of people had fled the mall during the shooting.

“The attacker has arrest. He even turned himself in,” Srettha told reporters, as reported by AFP.

Local Thai media reports also indicated that the police had detained an armed man as a suspect in the shooting. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear at this time.

Casualties: 1 Dead, 5 Injured

According to AFP, Thai medical officials reported one fatality in the mass shooting at Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok. Additionally, it report that six individuals were injured, with five of them in critical condition.

Yuthana Srettanan, Director of the Erawan Emergency Center, stated that the deceased victim a woman. “The deceased is of Chinese nationality, based on preliminary examination,” Yuthana told reporters.

It has been revealed that the perpetrator of the mass shooting at the Siam Paragon Mall is a 14-year-old boy. In an official Facebook post, the Royal Thai Metropolitan Police Bureau’s Investigation Division stated that officers had arrested a 14-year-old male in connection with the shooting.

The incident has left the nation in shock, and authorities are working to uncover the motives behind this tragic event at one of Thailand’s most prominent shopping destinations.
